The Quick and Dirty Digital Media Key Performance Indicators List

After a recent meeting with a client I sat down, had a nice latte and wished I had a dime for every time someone asked me "So, with this new campaign, what are we measuring?" It was a good question and I rattled off the usual list of things that one would measure based on the campaign we were going to run for them. But, it got me thinking that there should be an easier way to answer this question. Instead of explaining that while reach is important for a campaign that there are other performance data points we should also be watching including link clicks, social shares, and organic click rates based on the channels we run the campaigns in, I should just create a quick reference sheet to share with clients so that they can quickly view what we will want to monitor and what metrics we will want to optimize for based on the campaign's structure.

I built this quick reference sheet based on my experiences of building and optimizing campaigns for companies large and small, and while it is no where near exhaustive, it is a good starting point as you put together campaigns for your company or clients to help you think through what you can and will measure.

Download it and keep it handy when you are planning your next marketing campaign. Maybe it'll save you the question in the next meeting you have with your client.
